York Clips Northwest Girls In Central Conference Semis
(York, NE) - The York Dukes would advance to the Central Conference championship game, defeating the Northwest Vikings on Friday night, 53-48.
The Vikings would trail at the halftime break, 27-22. In the third quarter, the Vikings would trail 32-24, but would then mount a comeback to only trail 32-31 with 3:53 left in the frame. The Dukes would then stretch the lead back to nine with 1:25 left in the third. The Vikings would go into the fourth quarter trailing 43-34.
Northwest would make one final push in the fourth quarter, down 46-37 to trail by one, 46-45 with under five minutes to go in the game. That would be as close as the Vikings would get.
York is now 11-6 on the season and will advance to take on Crete in the championship game on Saturday, January 31st, at Adams Central High School. Crete defeated Aurora in the first semi-final, 42-36.
The Vikings slip to 8-8 on the season and will next be in action on Saturday in the third-place game at 1 p.m. vs. Aurora, also at Adams Central. The next broadcast of Viking basketball will be on Tuesday, February 3rd at Hastings. Listen live on 103.1 FM.
