Vietnam Veterans Ceremony Set for Wednesday in GI

We have more on Wednesday's 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War ceremony with Gary Quandt and Don Shuda.

The following is from GI Tourism.

March to commemorate Vietnam soldiers killed in action

GRAND ISLAND, NE: The Vietnam War ended on April 30, 1975 when North Vietnamese Army tanks rolled through the gate of the Presidential Palace in Saigon in what has since been coined the “Fall of Saigon.”

At 12 p.m., seven Nebraska Army National Guard soldiers will be carrying flags from Veterans Club Park to the Hall County Courthouse to remember the seven local Hall County veterans who were killed in action during the Vietnam War. Their route will take them from the Veterans Park over to Sycamore Street before winding through Railside to the courthouse. A map of the route is attached.

People are invited to line the route as the soldiers march by commemorating the end of the Vietnam War and honoring the local soldiers killed in action: Kenneth Wayne Schmidt, Jan Royce Gillham, Richard Gerald Gillham, Monte Larue Moorberg, Richard Paul Sawicki, Dewey Irvin Struebing, and Rodney Louis Engel.

During the 2 p.m. courthouse ceremony, the flags carried by the veterans will be given to any Gold Star Families in attendance.
