Troopers Arrest Chicago Homicide Suspect in North Platte

June 12, 2025 (North Platte, Neb.)  — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested an Illinois man wanted in connection with a Chicago homicide investigation.

Wednesday afternoon, NSP was alerted that a homicide suspect was believed to be traveling through Nebraska, driving a semi. Troopers were able to find the specific semi just after it had exited I-80 and parked at a business south of the interstate.

Troopers located the driver, Essian McGinnis, 34, of Tinley Park, Illinois, and took him into custody without incident. He was lodged in Lincoln County Jail on an active warrant for homicide issued in Cook County, Illinois.

The Nebraska State Patrol is working with the United States Marshals Service and the Chicago Police Department on this case.
