State Bowling - Kuusela Finishes 3rd In Class A


Grand Island Senior High Bowling

Class A State Singles held on Thursday, February 13th at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln.

All participants bowl 4 games of qualifying. The top eight players in each division (boys/girls) advance to a bracket final and are seeded by qualifying position. The bracket will consist of a 2-game series total, with the higher score advancing in the bracket. The state champion will be the player that wins the bracket, with final positions of all 8 players determined by ranking of score at the time of elimination.

In the girls competition, Juniors Kaleigh Kuusela and Wendy Kolar from Grand Island Senior High participated in the event. Kuusela qualified and entered the bracket as the #1 seed. In the 1st round, Kuusela defeated #8 Hanna Werner of Norfolk. Kuusela then fell in the 2nd round to #4 Kaylee Halladay of Fremont, finishing 3rd overall. The Class A State Singles Champion is Taryn Stern of Omaha Westview.

In the boys competition, Junior Broc Cramer and Sophomore Bradyn Sinsel from Grand Island Senior High participated in the event. Both boys qualified, Sinsel as the #2 seed and Cramer as the 6th seed. In the 1st round, Sinsel defeated #7 Andrew Wusk of Fremont and Cramer defeated #3 Gavin Unger of Columbus. In the 2nd round, Sinsel and Cramer face each other. Both boys battle out it to the very end, but Sinsel wins the 2-game series by 4 pins to move on to the championship match. In the championship match Sinsel falls to #5 Anden Sutter of Millard West.
