St Paul Softball ends season at District Final

The 17-11 St. Paul Wildcats gave it their best shot at the C-2 District Final in Wahoo today against a stout Bishop Neumann Cavalier squad. The Cavs proved to be too much however for St. Paul ending their season at 17-12 with an 8-0/5 inning Game 1 Victory and a 16-1/4 Inning victory in Game 2.

Game 1 saw Bishop Neumann jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. The Cavs added insurance with 2 runs in the 2nd, 1 run in the 4th and 4 runs in the 5th enroute to the 8-0 victory. Bishop Neumann prior to the contest came into the game with a 3 game shutout streak spanning 9 innings spanning 10 total innings dating back to their shutout streak in a game against Malcolm. The streak hit 15 innings of scoreless ball.

Game 2, Bishop Neumann erupted to an early 11-0 lead in the top of the 1st with 3 home runs. The Cats broke Neumann's shut out streak at 16 as Morgan Hawley singled to left scoring Alli Dugan from 2nd to cut the deficit to 11-1 through 2. Both teams shared a scoreless 3rd before Neumann added 5 insurance runs and shut the Cats out in the 4th to preserve the shutout and punch their ticket to Hastings next week for the Class C State Tournament.

The Cats end their season at 17-12 graduating Seniors Ace Pitcher Charlie Wegner and Utility player Brooke Peetz. Wegner ends her career rewriting some of the pitching records at St. Paul including
