St. Francis’ Inpatient Substance-Use Treatment Unit will temporarily relocate to Richard Young before June 30

CHI Health

Grand Island–CHI Health St. Francis Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center announces its residential (inpatient) treatment unit for substance use disorders will temporarily relocate to CHI Health Richard Young Behavioral Health. The Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center, which operates out of leased space at 2112 W Faidley Ave., has until June 30 to vacate the location.

The move to Kearney is temporary while the program explores options for a long-term Grand Island location. Staffing and services will continue without interruption before and after the transition.

Outpatient services for substance use disorders will remain in Grand Island.

“We want to assure our community that our Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center is not closing,” says Steve Schieber, president, CHI Health St. Francis. “Our sister facility in Kearney is also licensed and equipped with the necessary security and medical infrastructure for our patients with substance use disorders and any emotional challenges brought on by addition. It has space to comfortably and safely support all of our inpatient services and skilled staff. We expect this temporary transition will be seamless.”

The date for the temporary move will be announced soon with information on future plans for the Grand Island program to follow.

“We ask for our community’s patience and support as we work to improve care for those with substance use disorders and their families. Finding the right space in Grand Island and customizing it for this very specialized and regulated program will take a little time,” says Schieber. “As one of only a few substance use treatment centers in Nebraska, we remain deeply committed to this healing and transformative work our patients, families and the community relies on.”
