City Of Grand Island

City of Grand Island – South Locust Street Paving Improvement Project; Highway 34 to Wood River Diversion Canal.

The City of Grand Island Public Works Department is announcing South Locust Street will have lane restrictions beginning Monday, September 9, 2024 between Highway 34 and the Wood River Diversion Canal. South Locust Street northbound lanes will be closed. Traffic will be reduced to one lane of travel in both directions and will utilize the southbound lanes. Retail property to the east of South Locust Street will have access from one of the two driveways at all times. South Locust Street northbound is tentatively planned to be closed until November 2024.

The South Locust Street project includes reconstruction from Highway 34 to Wood River Diversion Canal. The project will consist of concrete reconstruction of the outer two (2) driving lanes of the roadway section for both northbound and southbound lanes. Phase 1 reconstructed the southbound lanes. Phase 2 will reconstruct the northbound lanes. No major changes will occur to the number of lanes or the roadway geometry. The project will also include minor storm sewer construction at Lake Street.

On March 12, 2024, City Council awarded the construction contract to Elsbury Construction, LLC of Grand Island, Nebraska for $2,626,321.60.
