On Saturday, September 7th at approximately 3:56 p.m., the Merrick County Sheriff's Office was detailed north of Chapman near 3rd Road in rural Merrick County to investigate a report of an airplane that crashed in a field.

The investigation concluded that a plane, occupied by a pilot and two occupants was en route to Grand Island and due to low fuel, the pilot fearlessly attempted to land the plane in a field while avoiding the powerlines and managed to land the plane causing minimal damages.
All passengers were uninjured. Chapman Fire and Rescue and St. Libory Fire and Rescue Departments assisted with this incident.
