Senate Debates Fillabusters and Elections
*Audio Version Of Story Below*
At the White House, different administration, same debate.
President Joe Biden wants senators who try to block bills to have to stand and talk for hours if they want to filibuster his legislative agenda. It would be a dramatic shift for the Senate, where currently a single senator can signal an intent to filibuster, setting a 60-vote threshold to advance most legislation.
Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska spoke on the Senate floor defending the fillabuster.
Staying in the Senate, The Senate Rules Committee held a hearing on the “For the People Act” yesterday, an election and democracy reform bill that expands federal regulations on campaign finance, ethics, and election policy. U.S Senator Deb Fischer of Nebraska says the bill is "800 pages of confusion and chaos."
