Semi/Mini Van Accident In Merrick County

(Merrick County, NE) - On Tuesday, April 2, at approximately 9:20 pm emergency crews were detailed to the area of US Hwy 30 between Worms Road and Gunbarrel Road to respond to a Semi versus minivan collision. The investigation concluded that the driver of the minivan, Anna Simmons, 41, of Grand Island, crossed the center line striking the semi, operated by Christopher Schutz, 42, of Kearney.

Simmons was transported by EMS to a Grand Island hospital with minor injuries. Schutz was uninjured. During the accident, law enforcement was directing traffic and a secondary accident occurred due to inattention by another driver. While law enforcement was ensuring that the first and second accidents were attended to, it was reported by another law enforcement officer there was a third accident that was caused by inattention. That vehicle rolled on its side in the ditch, the driver refused medical care and was released.

The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Island Police Department, and Grand Island Rural Fire and EMS.
