Scheierman Named a Finalist For Julius Erving Award

SPRINGFIELD, MASS.  — Creighton senior Baylor Scheierman is one of five finalists for the 2024 Julius Erving Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced today. The annual Julius Erving Award, named after the Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player, celebrates its 10th year by recognizing the top small forwards in Division I men's college basketball.

Scheierman leads No. 10 Creighton in scoring (18.9 ppg.) and rebounding (8.9 rpg.), ranking in third in the BIG EAST in scoring and second in rebounding. He also leads the conference in three-pointers made (93) as well as defensive rebounds per game (8.0) while ranking second with 36.1 minutes per game. An Aurora, Neb,. native, Scheierman became the first men's player in Division I history to record 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists and 300 three-pointers in a career. Additionally, Scheierman's 1,092 defensive rebounds are the most by any player nationally since at least 1999-2000.

Scheierman is Creighton's only player in the 10 seasons of the Julius Erving Award to be named to the watch list at any point. Last season he was one of 20 men on the preseason watch list, then advanced to the final 10 in early February. He is the only member of last season's final 10 to also make this year's final 10.

Fans can support their favorite player by participating in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, starting Friday, March 8, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
 
Later this month, the finalists will be presented to Erving and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The Selection Committee for the Julius Erving Award is composed of top men's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
 
The winner of the 2024 Erving Awards will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the other four members of the Men's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Bob Cousy Award (Point Guard), Jerry West Award (Shooting Guard), Karl Malone Award (Power Forward), and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (Center).
