One in Custody, Three Injured in Tuesday Night Grand Island Shooting


Grand Island Police Shooting Investigation

Grand Island, Neb. — On Tuesday, December 30 at 11:28 p.m., Grand Island Police officers responded to a report of gunshots in the area of the Pletcher Terrace Apartments in north central Grand Island.

Upon arrival, officers did not locate any victims at the scene, but did take a 29-year-old male into custody in connection with the incident. During the same timeframe, officers were dispatched to CHI St. Francis Emergency Room, where three individuals arrived with gunshot wounds. All three victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

A police investigation that followed determined that the 29-year-old male fired multiple rounds at a vehicle occupied by the three victims, striking both the vehicle and the individuals inside. The victims were identified as:

 

Victim 1: 20-year-old male
Victim 2: 22-year-old male
Victim 3: 27-year-old male
 

Officers and investigators recovered multiple items of evidence at the scene, including the suspect vehicle and a firearm. Officers also searched an apartment rented by the suspect that is adjacent to the shooting scene, resulting in the recovery of additional evidence.

The victims were all traveling in the same vehicle and transported themselves to CHI St. Francis Emergency Room following the shooting. Additional evidence, including the victims’ vehicle, was recovered at the hospital.

At this time, the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public. A person of interest is in custody.
