Nova Drops Creighton Women, 74-64
Omaha, Neb. -- Despite getting a combined 33 points and 14 rebounds from Grace Boffeli and Kennedy Townsend, Creighton Women's Basketball fell to Villanova on Sunday, February 15. Following the contest, Bluejay nation celebrated seniors Kiani Lockett, Boffeli and Townsend.
The loss moved Creighton to 12-14 on the season and 8-9 in BIG EAST action, while Villanova climbed to 21-5 overall and 14-3 in conference contests.
Trailing 2-0 in the opening moments, Creighton raced out to a 9-2 on buckets from Townsend, Boffeli, as well as freshmen Ava Zediker and Neleigh Gessert. Villanova responded with a 12-0 run, but the final five of the stanza belonged to the Bluejays as the game moved to the second quarter knotted at 14-14.
Neleigh Gessert and Townsend found their range from distance in the second period as Creighton splashed home four of its five treys to take a 32-29 lead into the locker room.
Villanova's offense threw its best punch in the third, hitting 10-of-19 shots as the Wildcats surged ahead 54-49 and did not release the advantage.
Townsend led all scorers with 23 points, while Zediker finished with 15. Boffeli delivered her 45th career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Villanova got 21 points from Jasmine Bascoe, 17 from Kennedy Henry, 16 from Denae Cater and 11 points from Brynn McCurry.
Creighton heads out to Indianapolis to face Butler on Wednesday, February 18 in Hinkle Fieldhouse. The contest is slated for a 6:00 pm start on ESPN+.
