Northwest Softball Snags Two Wins At The State Tournament

(Hastings, NE) - The Northwest softball team would pick up two wins on Wednesday at the Class B state softball tournament. The Vikings would down Ralston, 7-2, in the opening game of the tournament. Northwest would then take down Blair, 8-0, in the second game of the day.

In the first game of the day, Northwest would get off to a great start, scoring three runs right away in the bottom of the first inning. Northwest would add to the lead with one run in the bottom of the 2nd, and then two more runs would come around in the bottom of the 2nd, and another insurance run came around in the bottom of the 6th. Libby Loman would lead the way with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Becca Dinkelman would have a hit and three RBIs. 

In the nightcap vs Blair, the game would be a pitcher's duel through three innings until Northwest would get a big eight-run bottom of the fourth inning. Alexis Glaze would get the Vikings on the board first with a 2 RBI single. That would be followed up by a 2 RBI double from Abby Dinkelman to make it 4-0 Vikings. Becca Dinkelman drove in two more runs, making it 6-0. Graclyn Simmons would smack a two-run home run to add to the lead and make it 8-0. 

Gracyln Simmons would have another solid two outings in the circle. In the Ralston contest, she pitched 7 innings, giving up 2 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and had 11 strikeouts in the game. In the second game of the day Simmons would pitch 5 innings, giving up just 1 hit, 2 walks, and would have 6 strikeouts. 

Northwest is now in control of the top side of the Class Bracket with a 2-0 record. The Vikings will now await the winner of who ever comes out of the elimination side of the bracket tomorrow. At 9am Norris will take on Ralson. The winner of the game will get Skutt Catholic at 2:00 pm. The Winner of the 2:00 pm game will then take on Northwest at 4:30 pm. The Vikings just need to win one game, either Thursday or Friday, to advance to the state championship game in Lincoln on Wednesday. 

The bottom side of the bracket has Waverly vs Hastings in an elimination game at 9:00 am. The winner of that game will get Blair at 2:00 pm. The winner of the 2:00 pm game will then get Beatrice at 4:30 pm.
