Northwest Softball Season Preview
(Grand Island, NE) - It's back to work for the Northwest softball team preparing for the upcoming season that starts Thursday, August 22nd. The Vikings who won their second consecutive title last fall in Omaha defeating Blair by a final score of 9-8. With the game tied in the bottom of the 7th, the Vikings would get a base knock off the bat of Kyra Ray that the Blair second basemen would cut the ball off to the right of the second base bag, but there would be not enough time to make a play, as Libby Loman would score the game-winning run from third base. During the state tournament run, Northwest would drop the first game vs Scottsbluff 14-9 and then come back and win the next five games to claim the title. The Vikings would finish the season with a record of 26-7 qualifying for state for the fourth straight year, and winning the Central Conference title for the second consecutive year.
Head Coach Mitch Sadd only lost three seniors from last year's title team. Miah Kenny, Kamryn Mings, and Kylie Casperson. Northwest returns a loaded group with plenty of experience. Returners include Libby Loman, Ryese Zobel, Jolie O'Hara, Ava Smith, Laiken Dorsey, Lilly Martinez, Becca Dinkelman, and Kyra Ray. Reyse Zobel will enter the season with 30 career home runs which is the current school record.
