Northwest Softball Launches Nine Home Runs In Opening Games
(Hastings, NE) - It was a home run clinic by the Northwest softball team on Thursday night as the Vikings opened up the 2024 season at the Bill Smith Softball Complex with two wins. The Vikes would get dingers from five different players as Northwest would hit nine home runs in total on the night. The Vikings would defeat Gering 15-2 in game one. Becca Dinkelman would hit a three-run home run in the first inning. A three-run home run would follow from Libby Loman in the second. Loman would add a two-run shot in the third inning. Career home run leader Reyse Zobel would get into the mix with a three-run home run in the third inning. Left fielder Lilly Martinez would hit a solo shot in the third.
The Vikings would keep the long ball going in game two which would lead to a 10-8 win over Hastings. Northwest would hit four more home runs on the night. Lilly Martinez would knock her second solo home run of the night in the second inning then followed up later in the inning Northwest would get a two-run shot from shortstop Jolie O'Hara. Libby Loman would get another three-run home run on the night in the third inning. In the fourth Reyse Zobel would smack a two-run home run.
Northwest opens up the season with a 2-0 record and will head back to Hastings on Saturday, August 24th to take on Beatrice & Skutt Catholic.
GAME ONE: Hastings 13, Gering 0
GAME TWO: Northwest 15, Gering 2
GAME THREE: Northwest 10, Hastings 8
