Northwest Softball Goes 1-1 In Sub District Round
(Grand Island, NE)- The Northwest softball team would go 1-1 on Monday at the Vets Complex in Grand Island. The Vikings would come out and win the first game of the day by a final score of 15-1 vs Lexington. It was the third time this season that Northwest would defeat the Minutemaids. In game two Hastings would take care of Hwy6 by a final score of 10-0.
In the sub-district final championship game, Hastings would defeat Northwest 14-9. The two teams made it a slugfest in the first four innings as neither would score in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The Vikings would not pitch Loman and Simmons against the Tigers as three JV players for the Vikings would get the nod in the circle for Northwest. (Spiehs, Sundberg, Ross). Also resting and not playing for Northwest was all-time home run hitter, and catcher, Reyse Zobel.
The Vikings are now 27-2 on the season. Northwest being #1 in the wild-card point standings will now await an opponent for the district final round. The top 8 in the points play host for a best two out three series to see who advances to the state tournament next week in Hastings. The Tigers will also play in a district final with a record of 26-7.
