Northwest Softball Comes Back To Win Home Opener
(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest softball team trailed 6-1 on Tuesday night at the Vets Complex to Hastings St Cecilia in the Vikings home opener only to come back and defeat the Hawkettes by a final score of 12-8. The Vikings would start chipping back into the contest trailing 6-4 after the fourth and then come through in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring 7 runs. Northwest had 12 runs on 13 hits and 2 errors in the game. St Cecilia had 8 runs on 12 hits and 2 errors. Leading the black and gold was Becca Dinkelman with 3 hits and 2 RBIs, and Laiken Dorsey had 3 hits and 4 RBIs in the contest. Libby Loman started the game in the circle going 2 and a 1/3 innings on 58 pitches giving up 8 hits, 6 runs, and had 1 strikeout. Graclyn Simmons pitched the final 4 and 2/3 giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and had 8 strikeouts on 96 pitches.
Abbey Musalek had a three-hit night for the Hawkettes with 2 RBIs and Audrey Rossow with 4 hits. St Cecilia hit four home runs in the game. (Abbey Musalek 2, Brooke Bohlke 1, and Madison Bauer 1)
Northwest is now 5-0 on the season and will be in action next on Thursday, August 29th at Lexington. St Cecilia suffers it's first loss of the season as the Hawkettes are now 4-1 and will next be in action on Thursday, August 29th at Central City.
