Northwest Girls Season Comes To An End


(Gretna, NE) - The Northwest girls basketball season would come to an end on Saturday, falling at Gretna East, 69-56. With the win, Gretna East advances to the state tournament. 

The two teams would battle back and forth in the first half. The Giffiins would lead by two at the end of the first quarter, 18-16. Northwest would have to fight off the Gretna East press the entire game. The Vikings would have 25 turnovers in the game. 14 of those turnovers came in the first half as the Vikings went down only two at halftime, 34-32. 

The two teams would combine to hit 22 three-pointers. Things would open up towards the end of the 3rd quarter with Gretna East building an 11-point lead going into the 4th quarter, 53-42. The Giffins would outscore Northwest in the fourth, 16-14. 

Taryn French would lead the way for the Griffins with 24 points. Freshman Justice Love would have 21 points in the game for Gretna East. 

Northwest would get 21 points on the day from Emersyn Graves, followed by 12 points from senior Jolie O'Hara. 

The season ends for the Vikings at 13-11. Gretna East moves on to the state tournament with a record of 20-5.
