Northwest Football Comes Back For A Road Win At Crete

(Crete, NE) - The Northwest Viking football team rallied from behind on Friday night for a 27-21 win over Crete.
The Vikings would trail by one at halftime, 14-13. Northwest would get first-half touchdowns from Blake Wissing on a scoring pass of four yards to James Burhman. Wissing would also hook up with Brock Ostdiek for a 30-yard touchdown with about 2:00 left in the first quarter. The PAT would miss for the Vikings.
In the 3rd quarter, the Vikings would get their third score of the night on a 51-yard touchdown pass from Wissing to Keith DeLaet. Northwest would go for two but didn't punch it in and would lead 19-14. With 3:04 left in the 3rd quarter, Lyle Van Horn scored a 4-yard touchdown for Crete, giving the Cardinals a 21-19 lead.
In the 4th quarter, still trailing by two, the Vikings would manufacture a 93-yard scoring drive navigated to the two by Wissing and the offense and polished off by Gavin Haubold running in a four-yard touchdown run. The PAT was added, and the Vikings would take the lead with 4:15 remaining in the game, as the Vikings would lead 27-21.
Crete would take it down across midfield to win the game with a minute remaining. The Cardinals would throw a ball across the field to the Northwest sideline, and it would be intercepted by James Burhman. Northwest would then get one first down to seal the win after Crete burned their time outs stopping the clock.
