Northwest Football Closes Down Regular Season With Home Win

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest football team ran away from the Lincoln Northwest Falcons in the second half on Thursday night to secure a week nine victory, 44-18. 

Northwest would get two first-half touchdowns. A Blake Wissing 1-yard touchdown run with 29 seconds left in the first quarter. Then Wissing would hit Brock Ostdiek on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 7:13 remaining in the first half, making it 14-0 Vikings. 

Lincoln Northwest would get a 3-yard touchdown run from Carson Moore with 2:09 left in the first half. The Falcons would also tack on a 23-yard field goal with 12 seconds left before halftime to make it 14-10. 

The Vikings would go to a two-back shotgun set offense in the third quarter to open up the game. A 26-yard touchdown run by Wissing made it 21-10. Gavin Haubold would run in a 3-yard score with 3:18 left in the third, giving the Vikings a 28-10 lead. 

In the fourth quarter, Wissing would add another score of a touchdown run, giving the Vikings a 35-10 lead. Lincoln Northwest would have a bad snap that would go into the back of the endzone for a Northwest safety. It was then 37-10 Northwest. Major Bowen would add the last touchdown for Northwest on a quarterback run. It was then 44-10. Lincoln Northwest had a 30-yard touchdown run by Jaxson Love with :18 left. The Falcons would go for two and add it to the total with the final score ending in 44-18. 

With the loss, Lincoln Northwest finishes the season at 1-8. Northwest is now 4-5 on the season and now will scoreboard watch on Friday night. The Vikings will have a chance to get into the Class B state playoff field, but will need some help. Things may iron out for Northwest if Plattsmouth defeats Ralston.
