Mountain lion spotted in Merrick County

Clarks, Neb.- At approximately 8:40 pm a resident of Summerwood Resort contacted a Merrick County Deputy to report a mountain lion sighting in the area between the Sundance and Heron Point lakes. The mountain lion was captured on a trail camera. The camera took the photograph on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at approximately 4:30 a.m..
The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Nebraska Game and Parks to file a report. A Conservation Officer was assigned to the report and will continue to investigate the sighting.
It would be recommended that homeowners in the lake communities at Summerwood Resort keep their pets inside after dark.
