Man dead after hay grinder crashes into train

AMBOY - On February 19, at approximately 9:30 a.m., a hay grinder being driven eastbound on Highway 136 by a 24-year-old male Andrew Katzberg, crashed into an unloaded freight train at Amboy, Nebraska. The accident caused the derailment of multiple cars and the driver of the hay grinder was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is being investigated by the Webster County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Department of Roads, and BNSF railroad personnel. The cause of the accident remains undetermined but is under active investigation.

Highway 136 was closed from Red Cloud to Guide Rock from the time of the accident until approximately 3:00 a.m. on February 20, 2026. It is open now for regular traffic.

The Webster County Sheriff's Office would like to thank Red Cloud Fire Department, Red Cloud Ambulance, Guide Rock Fire Department, Nuckolls County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska Department of Roads, and BNSF for the assistance yesterday during the incident in Amboy.
