Lincoln – The Nebraska basketball program has added a familiar face, as Rhode Island transfer Jamarques Lawrence has signed with the Huskers.

Lawrence, a 6-foot-3, 183-pound guard from Plainfield, N.J., played two seasons at Nebraska before spending the 2024-25 season at Rhode Island.  He provides the Huskers with an experienced and proven shooter, as he has played in 93 games at the college level, including 66 starts, and is a career 38 percent shooter from 3-point range.

“We are excited to have Jamarques back at Nebraska,” Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg said. “He understands our offensive and defensive systems and how his skill set fits into what we are trying to do. He was an integral part of our success in his two seasons at Nebraska and was willing to do anything to help the team win. He’s got a natural shooting stroke, and you can see the improvements he has made during his career.”

Lawrence spent the 2024-25 season at Rhode Island, where he started all 31 games and averaged 9.9 points, 2.5 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game. Hed paced the Rams with 59 3-pointers and shot 39 percent from 3-point range and 87 percent from the foul line.  Lawrance ranked second on the team in assists (76) and steals (23) and minutes per game (28.8). He posted 13 double-figure games, including a career-high 20 points and four steals against Saint Bonaventure and 19 points at Saint Louis, when he connected on 5-of-6 from 3-point range.

Lawrence began his career at Nebraska, appearing in 62 games, including 35 starts for the Huskers during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. As a sophomore, he played in all 34 games as the Huskers won 23 games and reached the NCAA Tournament, averaging 6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He closed the season playing some of his best basketball, averaging 9.5 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field and 52 percent from 3-point range over NU’s final nine contests.  He had a season-high 19 points, including 5-of-5 from 3-point range, six rebounds and five assists in a road win at Indiana. It was one of 10 double-figure performances that season.

He was a significant contributor as a true freshman, as he played in 28 games and averaged 5.0 points and 2.2 rebounds. He started NU final 12 games and had seven double-figure efforts, including 15-point efforts against Michigan State and Iowa when he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
