Grand Theater to Close For Renovation
With the conclusion of the successful Grand Comic Con this weekend, the historic Grand Theater will be closed for a refresh and renovation until January of 2022.
The nonprofit, volunteer run theater which has been a Grand Island landmark for over 80 years, will be replacing all of the more than 400 seats, replacing lighting and installing a new sound system. The Grand Foundation Board, which is responsible for overseeing the theater, is launching the “What These Seats Have Seen” campaign in order to raise $80,000 to cover the costs of the renovations.
To accomplish this, The Grand will be closed through January of 2022 which will allow for the intensive seat renovation to happen.
The board will be selling the seats currently in The Grand to anyone interested in purchasing them. The cost is $100 for a pair of end seats and $25 per additional seat.
“The Grand is an anchor for Railside and has delighted generations of movie goers,” Craig Hand, President of the Grand Foundation Board said. “We are asking everyone who loves our theater to step up, donate to this campaign and help us secure The Grand as an institution for the future.”
