Grand Island Tourism Announces September Guided Tours

Grand Island Tourism

Grand Island, Neb. — Grand Island Tourism has announced its final guided walking tours of the season, which will be scheduled throughout September.

Each tour offers a unique perspective on the city’s history and culture, highlighting landmarks, stories and local heritage. Reservations are required and space remains available for all upcoming dates.

“For all participants’ enjoyment, we try to limit the tours to 20 people, and we provide listening devices so no one misses out on the information presented,” said Dana Jelinek, the Grand Island Tourism Program and Outreach Manager.

The September tours include:

  *   1940s Railside (West Side): Monday, September 8 // 6 p.m.
  *   Hargis House Neighborhood: Sunday, September 14 // 10 a.m.
  *   Sculpture Walk Railside: Saturday, September 20 // 10 a.m.
  *   Hybrid 1940s Railside Tour: Monday, September 22 // 6 p.m.

Three of the tours highlight Grand Island’s history. The Railside District, the city’s historic downtown, saw rapid business growth and change in the 1940s, particularly during World War II. The Hargis House and surrounding neighborhood date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, when many prominent business leaders built their homes there. Lastly, the Sculpture Walk Railside tour invites participants to view public art installations and learn about the pieces and artists behind them.

Tours are free, but reservations are required. Freewill donations are also encouraged to support the local nonprofits that help make the tours possible. To reserve a spot or learn more, contact Dana Jelinek at (308) 382-4400 or [email protected].
