Grand Island Home Federal Takes Two From North Platte

(Grand Island, NE) - The Grand Island Home Federal baseball team defeated North Platte Great Plains Health twice at Ryder Park on Wednesday. In game one, Grand Island won 14-3, and in game two, Gi claimed the victory 11-3.
In game one, Ian Arends drove in four runs on two hits to lead the way for Grand Island. Home Federal scored nine runs in the first inning. Broxton Barrientos doubled, scoring one run. Then Gabe Ruiz doubled, bringing in two more runs. Trent Verplank had an RBI single, Endry Laureiro had an RBI single, and then to cap it all off, Ian Arends smacked a grand slam to right field. GI added one run in the third and four more in the fourth inning. Grand Island had 14 hits in the game. Carson Rust would get the win on the hill for Grand Island.
In game two, Grand Island picked up right where they left off in game one, scoring six runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Barrientos doubled, scoring one run, Trent Verplank grounded out, scoring one run, Aldo Martinez doubled, scoring two runs, Ethan Coslor had an RBI triple, and Ian Arends chipped in an RBI single. In the bottom of the fourth inning, GI hit the offensive pedal again, scoring five more runs. With two outs, Gage Gannon launched a ball out to the outfield for a 2 RBI double, Gabe Ruiz doubled, scoring one run, Aldo Martinez had a RBI single, and Endry Laureiro drew a walk, scoring one run, after North Platte loaded up the bases. Miles Nelson would get the win on the mound for Grand Island, pitching three innings.
Grand Island is now 5-8 on the season and will be back in action Tuesday, June 17th, hosting Kearney. Junior's game starts at 5:00 pm and the seniors' game starts at 7:30 pm. Listen to the seniors game on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com.
