Grand Island Baseball Takes DH at North Platte Friday

(North Platte, NE) - The Grand Island Senior High baseball team downed North Platte on Friday, playing a doubleheader with the Bulldogs at Bill Wood Field. In game one, GI would win 13-3, and in game two, the Islanders would take the contest 9-7.
In game one, Grand Island would get 13 runs on 13 hits and would have 3 errors in the game. The big inning for the Islanders would be in the third, scoring six runs. North Platte would have 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 errors. The Bulldogs would get a run each in the first, third, and sixth innings. Grand Island would be led by Sam Dinkelman with 4 hits and 5 RBIs. Broxton Barrientos would have 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Ethan Coslor had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Gabe Ruiz would pitch all six innings, giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
In game two, Grand Island would get 9 runs on 7 hits and would have 2 errors. North Platte would have 7 runs, 3 hits, and 3 errors. Grand Island would score 2 runs each in the second and third innings. 4 runs would come around in the fourth for GI, and then the Islanders would add one more run in the fifth. North Platte would score 1 run in the second inning and remain scoreless until the fifth inning, scoring 6 runs to try and mount a comeback, trailing 9-1. GISH would get a 1 hit and 1 RBI from Arends, Barrientos, and Schroeder. Ruiz, Verplank, Cushing, and Cosler would each get a hit in the contest. Sam Dinkelman, Aldo Martinez, Carson Rust, and Miles Nelson pitched Grand Island to the win.
