Grand Island Baseball Splits Saturday Double Header


Grand Island Islanders Baseball

(Gretna, NE) - The Grand Island baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday, May 3rd at Gretna East High School. The Islanders would fall in game one to Gretna East, 1-0. In game two, the Islanders would defeat Elkhorn North, 6-5. 

The first game of the day, Gretna East, would throw a combined no-hitter. The two teams would be scoreless until the bottom of the 7th as the Griffins would get the lone run of the game to win the contest. Brock Cushing would pitch 6 and 2/3, giving up just five hits, the lone run, two walks, and would have six strikeouts in the game. 

In game two, Grand Island would get a 6-5 win in 10 innings. The Islanders would get a game-winning RBI double from Gabe Ruiz, scoring Brody Davidson from 2nd base in the bottom of the 10th. GI would have 7 hits and 3 errors in the contest. Elkhorn North would have five runs on nine hits and would also have three errors. GI would get a hit and two RBIs from Sam Schroeder. Gavin Ruether one hit and one RBI. Also, one hit each from Dinkelman, Barrientos, Nelson, and Laureiro.
