Give Hastings Day Culminates Thursday

Give Hastings Day

(Hastings, Neb.) — Give Hastings Day will culminate its 11th year on Thursday, May 2. Early giving is open, and official giving will conclude at 11:59 pm on Thursday. Donors can make a contribution to any combination of 108 Adams County nonprofit organizations with one gift. Thanks to support from sponsors, every gift, regardless of the amount, helps nonprofits access bonus bucks, prize money and other cash incentives.

“The Give Hastings Day committee and more than 100 local nonprofits put in significant effort to promote Give Day, the benefits, the platform, and to make the day possible” said Dan Peters, executive director of the Hastings Community Foundation, who hosts Give Hastings Day. “Once we get to May 2, the hardest part of our job is over. Our primary role on Give Day is to celebrate the day.”

Give Day Headquarters will be hosted at The Lark (809 W. 2nd Street) on Thursday. Give Day HQ will be the destination to drop off donations, learn about the participating nonprofits, and cheer on the fundraising progress. Special parking will be available for those dropping off donations. The schedule for Give Hastings Day Headquarters includes:
7 am – 11 pm: Open to accept donations
7 am – 8 pm: Coloring Contest (for artists up to 12 years old)
6 am – 2 pm: KHAS radio broadcasting live from Give Day HQ
7 am – 9 am: Coffee and rolls
10 am: Allo Speed Giving
11 am – 1 pm: Hamburger and hotdog lunch
5 pm – 7 pm: Business After Hours hosted by Oakeson Steiner Wealth & Retirement
7 pm – 10 pm: Live music by Formerly Three and popcorn bar
All events are open to the public. Meals are offered with a free will donation to benefit all the Give Hastings Day participants.

“Each year we get asked if there is a goal we’re trying to reach,” said Peters. “The truth is that on Thursday, regardless of the total raised, we are going to celebrate the work of our local nonprofits and the generosity of this community. The fundraising piece is obviously an essential part of the Give Hastings Day experience, but the day is also an opportunity to acknowledge, honor, and reward our nonprofits for the incredible work they do year-round.”

Give Day HQ will also feature a coloring contest for artists up to 12 years old. Six entries will be randomly selected to have $250 awarded to their favorite nonprofit.

Donations can be made online at givehastings.org or by bringing a check payable to the Hastings Community Foundation. Donors can make gifts to multiple organizations with one transaction. The leaderboard and fundraising totals for Give Hastings Day will be available on Thursday, May 2nd. The event will conclude that day at 11:59 pm that same day. In the first ten years, more than $5.4 million has been raised for area nonprofit organizations through Give Hastings Day. For more information, visit www.givehastings.org.
