GIPS Board of Education Accepting Applications for Vacant Ward A Seat
The Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education accepted the resignation of Board Member Josh Sikes at their January 8th, 2026 meeting. In accordance with state law, the Board will begin the process of appointing an individual to complete the remainder of Mr. Sikes’ term.
The Grand Island Public School Board of Education is encouraging community members to consider this volunteer position in support of public education and the students of Grand Island Public Schools. Patrons interested in being considered for the appointment must:
Be a resident of the GIPS school district
Reside within Ward A
Be a qualified registered voter
The appointment will be for the remainder of Mr. Sikes term. This term will expire on December 31, 2026. The appointed board member will be eligible to run for election to a full four year term during the 2026 election cycle.
The application for this position may be found on the Board of Education page of the school district website (https://www.gips.org/about-us/board-of-education).
Also, a copy of the application may be picked up at the Superintendent’s office located at 123 Webb Road in Grand Island. Completed applications must be received in the superintendent’s office no later than 4:00 pm on Monday, February 9th, 2026.
The Board will interview applicants during their regular board meeting on February 12th, 2026 The appointee will be selected following the interviews. The newly appointed board member will take the oath of office at the following Board meeting on March 12th, 2026.
