GIPD, GIFD Partner with Red Cross for 2025

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police and Fire Departments are teaming up once again for a lifesaving cause as they join the 2025 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, in partnership with the American Red Cross.

This friendly community competition brings first responders and residents together to help boost blood donations during a critical time of year. The event is taking place at locations across Grand Island, Kearney and Hastings.

In the process, donors will have the opportunity to show their support for their favorite department — police or fire — while making a real difference in the lives of those in need. All presenting donors receive a commemorative “Battle of the Badges” t-shirt while supplies last. In addition, donors receive a $15 Amazon.com gift card and are automatically entered into a national drawing to win one of two $7,000 gift cards.

"Supporting the blood supply saves lives in emergencies and everyday situations,” GIPD Division Chief Dean Elliott said. “We’re proud to join forces with our first responder partners and the Red Cross for this important event.”

To schedule an appointment, you can visit www.redcrossblood.org  and search for a Battle of the Badges location near you. Walk-ins are also welcome as space allows.

The Grand Island drive is taking place at the law enforcement center until 5pm today.  The Hastings drive will be from noon-6pm at the City Auditorium on Thursday.
