GICC Girls Basketball Season Comes To An End


GICC Crusader Basketball

(Milford, NE) - The Grand Island Central Catholic girls' basketball team ended its season on Monday, February 16th, falling to David City, 44-17, in the C1-8 Sub District tournament. 

A low-scoring affair would occur at the end of the first quarter with David City leading 3-2. All three points would come from the Scouts at the free-throw line. GICC would get a two-point bucket from Ava Gallatly with five seconds left in the frame. 

David City would outscore GICC in the second quarter, 8-5, as the Scouts would take an 11-7 advantage going into the halftime break. The Scouts would build their largest lead of the game at the end of the third quarter, 24-12. The majority of the 13-5 run in the third quarter by the Scouts would come in the last three minutes. 

The Scouts would continue to pull away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Crusaders 20-5. GICC would be led in scoring with seven points coming from Ella Meyer. The Crusaders only had two seniors on the team, Reegan Reilly and Laura Blake. The two were unfortunately sidelined most of the season due to injury. 

GICC ends its season with a record of 2-21. David City is now 13-11 and will take on host Milford (22-1) on Tuesday at 5:30 pm. The second C1-8 semi-final will take place at 7:00 pm with Broken Bow (15-9) taking on Central City (22-2).
