(Lincoln, NE) - The GICC boys basketball season would come to an end on Thursday, falling to DC West, 49-41, in the Class C1 state basketball tournament. The quarter-final win for the Falcons was the first boys basketball state tournament win for the school.

GICC would have a rough first quarter, not scoring until four seconds left, as Thomas Birch would hit a three-pointer. DC West was able to attack the rim the entire first half for the majority of their offense. The Falcons outscored the Crusaders 20-12 in the second quarter to lead at the halftime break, 32-15.

GICC would try to mount a comeback in the second half. In the third quarter, the Crusaders would outscore the Falcons 13-3. GICC would not allow a field goal in the quarter, as DC West would score all three points from the free throw line.

The Crusaders would have the deficit to four at 37-33 with 5:17 remaining in the game, but that would be as close as GICC would get. DC West would hit free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

The Falcons were led by Lane Smith with 14 points. Trey Olsen chipped in 12. DC West is now 22-6 on the season and will next be in action on Friday, March 13th, taking on Ogallala in the C1 semi-final at PBA. Tip off is set for 9:00 am.

GICC would be led in scoring with Isaac Urbanski with 8 points. Braylon Wolfe 7 points. Six points a piece from Thomas Birch and Henry Schrad. GICC says goodbye to four seniors. Jack Alberts, Thomas Birch, Connor Haney, and Isaac Urbanski. The Crusader season ends with a record of 22-6.
