GI Home Federal Wins Bellevue East Tournament

(Bellevue, NE) - The Grand Island Home Federal senior American Legion baseball team claimed the 2024 Bellevue East/Brickyard Tournament championship defeating Fremont by a final score of 8-7. 

Grand Island would drop their first game of the tournament to Omaha Gross on Friday by a final score of 5-1 but would then bounce back with three straight wins defeating Elkhorn Mt Michael 2-0, Bellevue East 9-0, and Fremont in the championship 8-7. 

In the win vs Mt Michael GI would get a combined shutout from Grayson Sack and Gabe Ruiz giving up only two hits in the game. Grand Island vs Bellevue East would jump out to an early 1-0 lead and hang on to the one-run lead until the top of the ninth as Home Federal would explode for 8 runs in the top of the sixth inning. Sunday vs Fremont would be a back-and-forth affair. GI would trail 4-2 after the fourth inning, but then answer with a four-run fifth inning to take the lead for good in route to the victory. 

Home Federal is now 10-2 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday, June 11th at Columbus. First pitch is set for 7:30 pm. GI will then travel to North Platte on Wednesday, June 12th for a doubleheader at 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Both Tuesday and Wednesday's games will air live on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com.
