Fatal Accident Claims Ogallala Man

North Platte State News

On 7-18-24, at 9:45 AM deputies and first responders were dispatched to an accident on West A street , several miles west of North Platte.  When they arrived, they found a vehicle with heavy front end damage from hitting a tree.  There were two occupants in the vehicle.  The female driver was seriously injured and the male passenger was deceased.  Evidence indicated that the accident happened  hours earlier.  The North Platte Rescue had to use extraction equipment to open the vehicle to remove the occupants.  It appeared that the driver may have been confused as to what road she was driving on and did not realize that she was on A Street, which is a dead end street.  She failed to see the warning signs and hit a large tree, head on, at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle was a 2000 Monte Carlo.  The drive was Addison Malone, an 18 year old female from Ogallala.  The deceased passenger was Nathaniel Sandoval, an 18 year old male from Ogallala.  Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.  Alcohol was a factor in the accident.  Criminal charges are pending for Addison Malone.  She suffers from serious, but non-life threatening injuries.  A sheriff’s office  accident reconstructionist is investigating  the details of the accident.
