Early Morning Shooting Injures One


Grand Island Police Shooting Investigation

The Grand Island Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting after a disturbance between two males at 2317 N. Kruse Ave. A 45 year old victim was shot in the trapezoid before both parties separated. Both victim and suspect were involved in a physical disturbance just prior to the shooting. The victim drove to the Law Enforcement Center to report the assault with a firearm. Victim was transported to St. Francis Emergency Department by Grand Island Ambulance for treatment of his injuries. 

The suspect was quickly identified as both the victim and witness/home resident knew the identity of the suspect. Gerber Perez Vasquez (41) from Grand Island, was taken into custody at the Law Enforcement Center at 10:26 am after he turned himself in and was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.

1st Degree Assault [28-308] Class II Felony
Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony (Firearm) [28-1205] Class IC Felony
Discharge of a Firearm in the City Limits [28-1212.04] Class IC Felony

3rd Degree Assault Mutual Consent [38-310 (1) (A)] Class I Misdemeanor
