Creighton Softball Stays Hot Claiming Eighth Straight Win

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton softball team captured its eighth consecutive victory, closing out the regular season and the final game at the CU Sports Complex with a 3-2 win over Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon to claim the fourth BIG EAST series sweep of the season.
The Bluejays improved to 15-9 in BIG EAST play and to 27-23 overall, securing the No. 4 seed in next week’s BIG EAST Tournament. Seton Hall, however, was eliminated from BIG EAST Tournament contention, falling to 29-23 on the year and to 11-13 in league play with the loss.
Seton Hall opened the scoring in the top of the first using a pair of one-out walks to Caroline Hobbes and Kelsey Carr to put runners on first and second, before an RBI single to center from Olivia Gilbert gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Seton Hall added a run in the second loading the bases with a pair of singles from Andrea Perez and Erin Howard and a walk from Katey Brennan, before an RBI single through the right side from Hobbers pushed the Pirates advantage out to 2-0.
Creighton answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame as Erika Perez laced a leadoff single into center and came around to score on a double down the right field line from Seville, which score on a throwing error from the Pirates right field to tie the game at 2-2.
The game would remain tied at 2-2 through the fifth before an RBI single into the right center field gap from Avery Barnard gave the Jays a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh.
That was all sophomore Brooklyn Patchen ended as she fired a scoreless seventh to secure the Bluejays eighth consecutive victory.
Perez went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Bluejays offense, while Seville added a pair of base knocks, breaking the BIG EAST Single Season record for hits in league play with 44.
Patchen earned her team-high 11th win of the season, recording a career-high eight strikeouts in the complete game effort.
Qualifying for the BIG EAST Tournament for second consecutive season and just the fourth time since joining the league in 2014, the fourth-seeded Bluejays will face fifth-seeded Butler on Wednesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. CT on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
