Creighton Men’s Basketball Adds Liam McChesney

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's basketball team filled out its 2025-26 roster on Wednesday with the addition of Liam McChesney.  McChesney is a 6'10" forward from Prince Rupert, Canada, and has two years of eligibility remaining.

"We're excited to welcome Liam to the Creighton Basketball family," said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. "He's a skilled and experienced player who understands how to impact winning. His mindset and approach stood out to us throughout the process, and we believe he'll be a great fit with our team and culture."

McChesney redshirted during the 2019-20 season at Utah State before playing the 2020-21 campaign with the Aggies alongside recent Creighton guard Steven Ashworth.  His season ended abruptly just three games into the year after suffering an injury.

He then transferred to Illinois State for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. His 2021-22 year saw him average 4.5 points in 17.3 minutes per game as he started eight of 32 appearances. He made 19 starts while playing 28 games in 2022-23 as he averaged 6.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest. McChesney scored in double-figures 10 times with the Redbirds, including a career-high 25 points in a 2022 win over Belmont.

McChesney has spent the last two seasons at High Point University, where newly-named associate head coach Alan Huss had been serving as head coach.

McChesney joins a talented group of Bluejay newcomers that includes incoming freshmen Hudson Greer and Aleksa Dimitrijevic, as well as Iowa transfers Owen Freeman and Josh Dix, Charlotte transfer Nik Graves, Miami (Fla.) transfer Austin Swartz and Howard transfer Blake Harper. The group has been ranked among the nation's best incoming classes.

Creighton finished its 2024-25 season with a 25-11 record and are one of four teams nationally to win an NCAA Tournament game each of the past five seasons.
