Coral Gables, Fla. -- Knotted at 4-4 entering the bottom of the seventh, Creighton surrendered five runs in the frame to drop the series opener at Miami 9-4 on Friday, March 20. The loss evened the Bluejays record at 9-9, while Miami moved to 16-6.

Creighton and Miami traded runs in the first, fourth and fifth frames.

The Bluejays opened the game with back-to-back singles from Rocco Gump and Teddy Deters. After a ground ball double play, Ben North picked up his squad with an RBI single to right. Miami answered with a one-out solo home run from Daniel Cuvet to right.

Creighton went back on top in the fourth as Connor Capece lined an RBI double down the left field line to bring home North, who opened the frame with a single. The Hurricanes answered immediately with an RBI ground out from Michael Torres.

Once more in the fifth the Jays surged in front, getting a leadoff walk from Lew Rice and a one-out RBI double from Deters. Cuvet, however, responded with his second long ball of the game to bring the score to 3-3.

Trailing 4-3 as the game moved to the top of the seventh, Nate McHugh lined a single to left. The Bluejay DH stole second and raced home on an RBI double by North.

Miami took advantage of three Creighton walks, a hit batter, a single and a three-run double in the seventh to take a commanding 9-4 edge and went on to win the game by that score.

Reliever JT Adams took the loss (1-1), allowing two runs in the seventh in 0.1 innings. Miami reliever Lyndon Glidewell picked up the win, getting the final out of the seventh.

The Bluejays and Hurricanes continue their three-game set on Saturday, March 21 at 5:00 pm (CT).
