Creighton Baseball Takes Series From UConn with 11-7 Win

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball scored 32 runs over the final 20 innings against UConn as the Bluejays downed the Huskies 11-7 on Sunday to claim the series on Sunday, April 6.
The win pushed Creighton to 19-8 on the season and 2-1 in BIG EAST action, while Connecticut fell to 13-17 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Creighton got on the board in the second with five runs on three hits. The Bluejays loaded the bases with one down on walks to Nate McHugh and Kyle Hess, then Will MacLean was hit by a pitch. Matt Scherrman followed with an RBI single up the middle, then Tate Gillen drew a bases loaded walk to make it 2-0. Following the second pitching change of the inning, Dakota Duffalo laced a two-run single up the middle and Nolan Sailors blasted an RBI single to right.
Connecticut answered quickly by taking advantage of an error that extended the top of the third as well as a pair of walk when Tyler Minick made it a 5-4 contest with a grand slam to left.
The Bluejays pushed across a pair in the fourth as Duffalo and Sailors scorched singles to right, then Ben North delivered an RBI double to right. With two down walks to MacLean and Kyle Hess gave Creighton a 7-4 edge.
The Huskies scored one in the fifth on a two-out RBI double from Ryan Daniels, but Creighton scored four in the bottom half courtesy of an RBI hit-by-pitch from Sailors and North's two-run double. The Bluejays pushed across another on an error to lead 11-5 as the game moved to the sixth.
Connecticut's final two runs crossed on a two-run blast from Sam Biller in the top of the sixth.
Bluejay reliever Matt Aukerman grabbed the win (6-0), allowing one run in 1.2 frames. Three of Aukerman's five putouts came on strikes. Closer Garrett Langrell earned his seventh save of the season, sitting down all seven men he faced. Connecticut starter Sean Finn took the loss (2-1), allowing two runs on three walks in 1.1 innings.
Four Bluejays closed the game with two hits, including Sailors' 2-for-2 day. He reached all six times he came to the dish with two walks and two HBPs.
Creighton returns to action on Tuesday night at Charles Schwab Field Omaha against North Dakota State with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
