Creighton Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from SMC

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball swept its Sunday doubleheader with Saint Mary's to take the series from the Gaels on March 23 as the Bluejays won the opening game 6-2 (7) and rallied with three runs in the final frame to claim the nightcap 6-5 (8).
The victories lifted Creighton to 13-6 on the season, while Saint Mary's fell to 12-11 overall

Bluejay power was the difference in the opener as a leadoff double in the first by Tate Gillen led to Creighton taking a 1-0 lead in the first. The Gaels pulled even with a solo home run by Tanner Griffith in the third, only to see Nolan Sailors put the Bluejays back in front 2-1 with his own solo shot to center.
A leadoff double and a pair of sacrifice bunts brought SMC even in the fifth, but Creighton put the game out of reach with four runs in the sixth on a two-run blast by Wll MacLean, a solo shot from Teddy Deters and an RBI double from Nick Venteicher.
Bluejay closer Garrett Langrell got the final out of the sixth and three in the seventh to earn the win (2-0), while Creighton starter WIlson Magers was strong over 5.2 holding the Gaels to two runs on two hits and three walks.
Saint Mary's reliever Sam Krelish took the loss (2-2), giving up four runs on three hits and two walks in on inning.

Trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, the Bluejays pushed one across in the fourth, two in the fifth and three to walk off the game in the eighth due to time constraints.
Venteicher put the Bluejays on the board in the fourth with a sacrifice fly, but Gaels responded with a run in the top of the fifth to make it 5-1.
Creighton moved within striking distance in the fifth via a sac fly from Ben North and an RBI single from Deters.
Down 5-3 as the game moved to the eighth, Tate Gillen was hit by a pitch to open the frame. Pinch hitter Jack Torosian laced a single to center to put runners at the corners. With one down Nate McHugh singled to left, then North lined an RBI double to left center to tie the game at 5-5.
Moments later with the bases loaded Deters was hit by a pitch to walk the game off for the Bluejays.
Creighton reliever Matt Auckerman picked up the win (4-0) with three innings of scoreless relief, while Gael reliever Adam Enyart (1-3) took the loss. Enyart allowed three runs on two hits in one-third of an inning.
The Bluejays are back in action on Tuesday, March 25 at Omaha with a 5:00 p.m. first pitch.
