Creighton Baseball Downs Georgetown 12-1 To Claim Regular Season BIG EAST Title

Tysons, Va. -- Powered by four home runs, Creighton Baseball claimed a share of the BIG EAST regular season title and the overall top seed in the BIG EAST Tournament next week with a 12-1 win over Georgetown in seven innings on Saturday, May 17.
The Bluejays close the regular season at 38-14 overall and 17-4 in BIG EAST contests, while Georgetown fell to 16-40 on the season and 3-18 in conference games.
Creighton cracked the scoreboard in the top of the second when Ben North scampered home on an RBI ground out from Teddy Deters. The Bluejay lead grew to 3-0 in the third as Tate Gillen blasted the first long ball of the day over the left field wall. Nate McHugh pushed the advantage to 5-0 on a two run blast to left-center.
Georgetown's lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a solo home run to left by Andrew Gillio.
Creighton responded with a three-run round tripper from Connor Capece in the fifth, then pushed four more across in the sixth. Ben North provided the highlights in the sixth with a two-run shot.
Freshman Wilson Magers collected the win (6-2), holding the Hoyas to one run on four hits and one walk in six innings, while Georgetown starter Andrew Williams took the loss (3-5) allowing eight runs on seven hits and three walks in 4.2 frames.
The Bluejays open the BIG EAST Tournament on Wednesday, May 21 against the No. 4 seed St. John's at 2:30 p.m. in Prasco Park (Mason, Ohio).
