Creighton Baseball Completes Sweep with 16-4 Win at Butler

Indianapolis, Ind. -- Creighton Baseball completed its third consecutive sweep in BIG EAST action with 16-4 win over Butler on Sunday, May 4. The victory pushed the Bluejays to 31-13 on the season and 12-3 in BIG EAST contests, while Butler fell to 14-33 overall and 3-12 in league play.
The Bluejays plated single runs in each of the first three frames, while Butler got a run in the second and two in the third to send the game to the fourth inning knotted at 3-3.
Creighton's tallies came on an RBI single in the first by Connor Capece, a run crossing in the second on an error and an RBI walk to Kyle Hess. Butler countered with an RBI hit-by-pitch in the second by AJ Soloman and a two-run home run from Connor Sackett in the third.
The fourth inning changed the course of the game as Creighton plated eight runs on six hits and two Butler errors. A pair of hit-by-pitches and a error loaded the bases, then RBI infield singles by Capece and Matt Scherrman gave the Bluejays a 5-3 edge. Dakota Duffalo followed with a two-run single, then Kyle Hess blasted an RBI double to push Creighton's lead to 8-3. A run scoring passed ball and RBI singles from Tate Gillen and Nolan Sailors extended the Creighton advantage to 11-3.
Both teams scratched across single runs in sixth, while Creighton added four insurance runs in the ninth.
Bluejay starter Wilson Magers collected the win (5-2), limiting Butler to three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk in five frames. Butler reliever Corbin Synder took the loss (0-5), allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.
Capece led the Creighton offense, going 4-for-6 with four RBI.
Creighton returns to action on Tuesday, May 6 at Nebraska. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
