Comeback Cats rally vs Cards; Walkoff in 7th

St Paul Softball

For the 3rd time this season Kali Volk's Wildcats needed a little magic on the Softball Field. The Cats picking up lucky win #7 on the year as the Cats erase deficits of 1,2,1,and 4 as they rally in the bottom of the 6th and walkoff bottom of the 7th vs Class C foe Boone Central.

The Cards struck first in the Top of the 1st to take an early 1-0 lead. St. Paul using an overturned call for interference to their advantage took their first lead of the night extending the lead to 3-1. It wasn't safe as the Cardinals tacked on a run in the 2nd to cut the deficit to 1 at 3-2. Both teams split a scoreless 3rd to take the score to 3-2 St. Paul at the Top of the 4th. That was where the fireworks began, after a string of bad luck and errors Boone Central put up a 3 spot in the frame on a bases loaded clearing double to make it 5-3. St. Paul playing small ball cut the deficit back down to 1 as it was 5-4 Cards going to the Top of 5.

Boone Central added 3 more runs making things seem bleak for the Cats on Parent Night. The Cats turned to Freshman Brooklyn Heater who kept St. Paul in the Conest. The Cats weren't done yet as they came to life in the bottom of the 6th batting through the order in the bottom of the 6th to bring 5 runs across with the go-ahead play coming from Annie Stepanek on 2 run double to left center on an 0-2 count with 2 outs to give the Cats a 9-8 lead.

Going into the 7th Boone Central tied the game on a bases loaded walk with 2 outs to make it 9-9. Coach Volk turned back to Senior Addy Wegner down in the count 2-0 to get the final out and she did just that forcing a pop up to give the Cats one final chance to win in the bottom of the 7th.

Senior Kami Sack led off the 7th for St. Paul reaching on an error to the pitcher and the Cats went back to work playing small ball. Sack stole 2nd on the ensuing at bat by Alli Dugan. Dugan on her 2nd pitch popped out to Right Field. Sack tagged up from 2nd getting to 3rd. Trying to get the out the ball flew into the dugout advancing Sack to home winning the Cats the contest in a wild one 10-9

With the win St. Paul improves to 7-6 on the year.

Kami Sack earns Runza MVP going 3-4 reaching on all 4 at bats with 2 runs scored including the game winner.

Annie Stepanek takes home the Dugout Grill Dang Good Play of the Game with her 2 run double to give the Cats the lead at 10-9.

St. Paul is back in action at Arlington this weekend. Our next softball broadcast will be on 9/25 on the Road at Twin River.
