City of Grand Island Reminds Residents to Obtain 2026 Pet Licenses

Grand Island, Neb. — The City of Grand Island would like to remind all dog and cat owners residing within city limits that 2026 pet licenses will be available for purchase on Monday, December 1.

Licenses may be purchased at local veterinary clinics, the Central Nebraska Humane Society and the City’s Utility Customer Service Center. The Central Nebraska Humane Society is located at 1312 Sky Park Road and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Utility Customer Service Center, located at 1306 West Third Street, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The license fee is $16 for each spayed or neutered pet and $41 for each pet that is not spayed or neutered. Licenses are valid from January 1 through December 31 each year. A $10 late fee will be added per license after January 31, 2026. Owners will receive a receipt as proof of licensing and a metal tag for each pet. Tags should be securely attached to the pet’s collar. Replacement tags may be purchased for $5.

To obtain a pet license, the animal must be current on its rabies vaccination. Nebraska law requires all dogs and cats over six months of age to have a valid rabies vaccination, which is available at local veterinary clinics. The City of Grand Island reminds residents that local ordinances apply to all pets within city limits. To learn more about animal codes, visit www.grand-island.com/citycode.
