City of Grand Island Refines Felony Report Content

Grand Island Police

Grand Island, Neb. — The City of Grand Island is implementing updates to how its GIPD daily felony report is distributed and the type of information that is included, reaffirming the City’s commitment to transparency while ensuring continued compliance with state and federal laws.

Under the updated reporting structure, the daily felony report will continue to include standardized, high-level information for applicable incidents. Each report will contain the incident number, a general address when appropriate, the date and time of the incident and the applicable state statute or charge category. In addition, a brief narrative will be included noting that officers responded to the applicable crime within the city limits of Grand Island, but will not include investigative details or personal information.

The felony report will be published each morning Monday-Friday to the Grand Island Police Department’s website at www.gipolice.org/felonyreport. If local media members would like to speak with GIPD about the report, they are encouraged to reach out to Division Chief Dean Elliott, who will continue to discuss only details that remain in compliance with state and federal laws.

These updates reflect a careful balance between keeping the community informed and protecting the integrity of investigations and the protected privacy of individuals involved.
