The court of industrial relations has rejected a petition to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Grand Island Education Association against the Grand Island Public School District.

The lawsuit claims that it should be paying certain substitute teachers as full time employees.

The GIEA claims that subs were being used to replace teachers who had retired or otherwise left the district permanently, and that those teachers should be treated as full-time employees.

In February, an attorney for Grand Island Public Schools asked the court to dismiss the complaint.

Yesterday the court rejected that motion to dismiss and a set trial date has been set for July 21st.
