Bluejay Baseball Drops Wild Battle with Abilene Christian, 12-11
Cleburne, Texas -- In a game that saw the two sides trade innings of a half dozen, Creighton Baseball fell to Abilene Christian 12-11 on Saturday, February 28. The loss moved the Bluejays to 2-6 on the season, while ACU climbed to 6-4.
The Bluejays struck first on a two-run single from Chris Baillargeon in the second. Creighton extended the lead to 4-0 in the third on RBI knocks from Ben North and Connor Capece, but ACU answered with a two-run blast from Grant Watkins.
The Wildcats took the lead with six runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bluejays answered right back with six runs on five hits in the top of the fifth. Four different Bluejay hitters had one RBI in the frame, including another run scoring hit from Capece.
Knotted at 10-10 after five, ACU took the edge with a single run in the sixth and the two squads traded tallies in the seventh.
North and Capece each closed the day 3-for-5 with two RBI in the loss.
Creighton reliever Henry Prindl suffered the loss (0-1), allowing the go ahead run in the bottom of the seventh, while Abilene Christian's Carson Wallace picked up the win (1-0). Wallace surrendered the game tying run in the top of the seventh, then game way to Brady Coe for the final two frames. Coe allowed just one hit to earn his second save of the season.
Creighton closes out play at the REV Tournament on Sunday, March 1 at 11 am.
