Aurora Drops Semifinal Thriller


Aurora led by 14, trailed by seven, rallied to take the lead, but then fell to Adams Central 41-38 in the semifinals of the Central Conference boys basketball tourney. The Huskies dominated defensively in the first half in building a 23-11 lead. The Patriots outscored the Huskies 20-3 in the third and led by 33-26 early in the fourth. However, Aurora (9-5) scored the next eight to grab the lead on a three-pointer by Kaiden Wineteer 34-33 with 1:40 to go. 

Decker Shestak gave AC (13-3) the lead back with a three-pointer. Aurora would tied the game at 36 on a steal and bucket by Cannon Allen. Jayden Techmeier put the Patriots back up with a transition layup. Allen hit two free throws with 18.6 seconds remaining to tie the game at 38. Shestak nailed the game winning three-pointer as time expired. 

Allen led Aurora with 14. Hunter Nepple scored 11 for Adams Central. The Huskies play York for third at 11am Saturday. The Patriots get unbeaten Crete for the championship at 3pm at the Aurora Middle School. Click here for the bracket.
